On Feb. 20, Victor Hernandez, Director of Media Innovation at Banjo and Fellow at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute, held a new digital tools workshop, which was also cosponsored by the Society of Professional Journalist San Diego.

He talked about new social media trends, the emergence of messaging apps, wearables like the iWatch, virtual reality Journalism, and live streaming techniques.

Victor also had Jillian Bloome talk about Banjo. She described it as “the next generation of police scanners.” It tracks what people are talking about via various social media platforms, like geolocation, anywhere in the world. It organizes the social media content by time and location.
