NAHJ San Diego-Tijuana Organizes Vigil in Honor of Slain Mexican Journalists

SAN DIEGO – In solidarity with the “Periodismo en Riesgo” protests happening across Mexico, the NAHJ San Diego-Tijuana chapter will host a vigil in honor of the recent killings of Mexican journalists José Luis Gamboa Arenas, Margarito Martínez Esquivel and Lourdes Maldonado López.

Around 145 Mexican journalists have been killed since 2000, according to Articulo 19, an organization that advocates for media freedom in Mexico.

NAHJ San Diego-Tijuana invites the local journalism community to pay tribute to our Mexican colleagues during a small vigil ceremony on Friday evening. In light of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, we ask that attendees mask up during the event and practice social distancing. If you are experiencing COVID symptoms, please stay home. Thank you.
