The National Association of Hispanic Journalists San Diego-Tijuana chapter is proud to announce that through the generous donations of members and The San Diego Union-Tribune, we awarded two talented journalism students $3,000 in scholarships on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Karina Bazarte, a journalism student at San Diego State University, got $2,000 from the chapter for her educational accomplishments and passion for uplifting stories of Latino community members. Ana Paola Olvera, a journalism student at SDSU, was awarded The San Diego Union-Tribune $1,000 scholarship for her dedication to covering Latino life stories.

We were joined by dozens of members and professional journalists on Oct. 9 at Mujeres Brewhouse to celebrate Bazarte and Olvera. Thanks to our sponsor tables: SDUT, Scatena Daniels Communications, SDSU’s Journalism and Media Studies school, inewsource and individual guests we raised more than $1,400 for next year’s scholarship.

We are gearing up to fundraise for next year’s scholarship. You can donate here at  bit.ly/nahjsdtj22.

If you were a guest at our event, you can find your headshots here.

Thank you to our dedicated scholarship committee members. Your work made this possible.
